Short Bio:
Noah Arhm Choi (they/them) is the author of Cut to Bloom, winner of the 2019 Jack McCarthy Book Prize. A Lambda Literary Poet-In-Residence and Valentines Editor for Honey Literary, they received an MFA from Sarah Lawrence, and their work has appeared in The Adroit Journal, Split this Rock, The Rumpus, Foglifter, and elsewhere. Noah was shortlisted for the Poetry International Prize and received the Ellen Conroy Kennedy Poetry Prize, alongside fellowships from Kundiman, the Sewanee Writers’ Conference, and the Adirondack Center for Writing. They currently sit on the Kundiman Board of Trustees, and work as an Equity Senior Program Associate at NYU Metro Center for Research on Equity and the Transformation of Schools. A K-12 educator of fifteen years, they work to embolden the intersection of education, activism, and the arts.
Educator Bio:
Noah Arhm Choi (they/them) is an award-winning poet, educator, and thought leader on creating transformative gender equity practices. They bring over fifteen years of experience working in K-12 education and providing professional learning for adults in schools, youth art programs, and multinational nonprofits and corporations. A warm and dynamic facilitator, Noah has delivered more than 300 professional learning opportunities for school leaders, new and experienced educators, families, Human Resource Departments, and LGBTQ+ rights organizations, including speaking engagements at numerous annual DEI conferences for hundreds of participants. They hold a Master’s of Science in Education and a MFA in Poetry from Sarah Lawrence, alongside teaching certificates in General and Special Education (grades 1-6), ELA (grades 7-12), and a certificate in Social Justice Design and Implementation from IDSJ. They were a classroom teacher for five years in New York City before serving as the Director of the Progressive Teaching Institute and Associate Director of DEI at the Ethical Culture Fieldston School for six years. Currently, they are a researcher and Equity Senior Program Associate at NYU Metro Center. They also had the honor of serving as a Co-Chair for the NYSAIS Diversity Committee, and a steering committee member of KQTx, a national Korean Queer Trans network.
As a researcher, Noah is an expert in creating gender inclusivity in policies, interpersonal dynamics, and organizational culture. In 2019, they created a groundbreaking student and employee gender support and transition policy based in best practice, legal guidance, and principles of harm prevention. Noah brings their extensive crisis management training to create thoughtful, justice-orientated decisions. They have consulted with numerous schools to help develop their gender inclusive policies and practices, including Horace Mann, The Cathedral School of St. John the Divine, De La Salle Academy, Grace Church School, Oakwood Friends, and NYC Public Schools.
