I’m so glad you got the celebration and roses you deserve for your retirement, Kass. You have without a doubt made an indelible mark on this world. As a result of your generosity, we’ve been able to cover all memorial costs, and put $11,055 towards the Kundiman scholarship in Theo’s name that will increase access for queer and disabled Asian American writers to this national network of workshops, retreats, and community events. RSVP in bio and at http://bit.ly/48zFcJ0 Going back to my high school to celebrate the incredible career of the poetry teacher who opened up the world of writing to me and forever changed my life. I couldn’t imagine arriving at 40 years old before I had access to gender affirming care. Knowing this, alongside how quickly life can change, knowing not all of us make it to 40, makes it feel like no small miracle to celebrate this birthday. Grief is such a wild and unruly thing. Theo was a firecracker, the biggest of hearts, a profound poet. Helping care for them these past few months at the hospital was many things, including a gift of time. Even through it all, they cared so much for all of us with a kindness I will be learning from forever. Ever grateful to community and how people have stepped in to help and comfort, especially the care team who has been an incredible example of chosen family and networks of care. Plans to present about gender equity at a conference in Minneapolis had to change because of 🧊 terrorism. Grateful to the organizers for the immense work of shifting the entire conference online. Community power is everything. Let’s call our reps- we must abolish 🧊funding NOW.
